  29. ICC Wacky Cards
    $9.95
ICC presents a very special deck of cards: Wacky Cards. Their objective is to introduce the element of luck into chess in order to provide a less competitive and strressful side to the game. Chess is demanding, each player must assume defeat as something individual, and learn to manage negative emotions. When chess is introduced in the school or in the family, there is a danger of giving the competitive side an excessive role. In doing so, some children are frightened or intimidated by the 'life or death' scenario of the game. When using the cards, we introduce a luck factor into the game which helps reduce the competitive component and enhance chess as something fun. The cards also allow a player to occasionally defeat others of higher level. We encourage the sporadic use of these cards in combination with regular chess play and instruction.

    RULES

1  The deck of cards is placed face down and the chess pieces are placed on a board in their usual starting positions. Used cards are discarded and not used again until all card in the deck are used.
2  On turn you either play normally or pick a card
3  If you pick, you must show it and do as instructed. If it can’t do as instructed, you move as you normally would in a game of chess.
4  You can only hold special cards when one is drawn. If you choose to hold a special card or joker you move as you normally would in a game of chess.
5  Chess rules must be followed. Neither illegal positions nor pawns in the 1st or 8th rank. You can’t leave you king in check.
6  Check can be given while moving, placing or removing pieces, which ends your turn.
7  When in Check, you must defend without taking a card.
8  Game is won with Checkmate.
